Show Notes Transcript

Hi friends! Hang out and play My Time at Portia with us! We talk about what we were like in middle/high school, complain a lot about math, and discover that Arlo is a trash character.

Karly
Hey there welcome to our podcast where we try to figure out life together one video game at a time. I'm Karly

Sam
And I'm Sam grab a snack, grab your controller, and let's hang out and play.
[Music]

Karly
Hey, that's a great start, leavin it in.

Sam
I'm ready.

Karly
Okay. Hey, buddy.

Sam
Hey, dude.

Karly
Wow, what a start.

Sam
We're really nailing the starts here. We really are.

Karly
Yeah. How are you tonight?

Sam
I'm, I'm good. I've been looking forward to recording this episode all day.

Karly
Same. We're recording on a different night than usual. It's late. I'm sleepy. But I am excited to play this game. What are we playing tonight?

Sam
Well, everything's different. Like, yeah, we're recording on a different day time. I'm recording on a different console. I'm in a different room. Like there's so much happening that's different. But I'm playing on my console. I'm playing on my PlayStation 4, because we're playing my time at Portia.

Karly
Yay.

Sam
Which is super exciting. It's like a life sim/simulator. It gives me similar vibes as like Stardew. But with different graphics.

Karly
Yeah.

Sam
I feel like there's more to do in Portia, it's bigger. I think it's more overwhelming than Stardew.

Karly
Yeah. So I, I discovered My Time at Portia a few years ago. I feel like it was right after my brother got his switch. Maybe not right after, but it was it was a few years ago. And absolutely fell in love. So basically, you play as this person who is a builder who inherits like this, like shop, basically. And you craft things for like this post apocalyptic town. So from building like bridges to things for different people in the town, like that they might need for like their business or something. And then there's like a storyline that you can follow and whatever, whatever. I - there's a lot of math involved. A lot. So I'm a little bit nervous, because I'm tired. But I played this before Stardew. And when I then played Stardew, I was so overwhelmed with Stardew. And thought it was way harder. My opinions have since flipped, like now that I've given Stardew enough time. It's not as overwhelming.

Sam
Right.

Karly
And I don't think Portia is like a hard game to play. It's just the math. It's literally just the math.

Sam
Right, because with Portia, it'll be like, okay, you need to build this. But in order to build this, you also need steel and but you need steel, you need X, Y and Z, you need 30 of this to build one of that to build four of those. And you're like, right, so how much steel do I need? Very, like very involved, for sure.

Karly
Yeah. And the other thing is that I am playing on my switch and I only have a switch lite so I can't put it on a bigger screen. My biggest complaint about this game on the switch is that if you're playing handheld, it's so freakin hard to read. There's no way to like zoom in or adjust like the font size. And your like daily tasks show up on like the right upper hand part of the screen in little tiny white letters. So if you have bad eyesight, or you struggle to read things in video games, you will have a hard time on a switch lite. I'm just saying.

Sam
I have a just to kind of catch. I'm trying to catch myself up. I'm probably not going to get anything done in today's world. Oh my God, my dog is walking on the table scraps get down from the table. Oh my goodness,

Karly
I'm not as far ahead as Sam is because like I said I was playing on my brother's switch. And then when I got my own switch, he politely asked me to get it on my switch so he could take it off of his cause it was eating up storage. So I basically have started over and I had made it pretty far. But currently I am working on building a bridge to amber island which basically just unlocks a different part of the game for you to explore.

Sam
Yeah, I haven't even I was just trying to look at my map and I haven't even explored I don't have I don't even have all of it unlocked and I have put a decent amount of days into this or hours into this game.

Karly
Yeah.

Sam
and I - my map is so it's baby. I still don't know what I'm doing. What is this? Where am I? Okay I think that's a task I can do maybe Sophie's ranch. I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. I was one of my missions is Mally wants you to construct a lift and install it at the designated location for easy access to the Western plateau. Who's Mally?

Karly
Bro I don't know.

Sam
let me see who is that? Who's Mally let's see. Let's see. Let's see. Oh, I remember mint. What a babe. I don't even know who Mally is. They're not even on my like social like my people.

Karly
I need to make apparently, copper bars. I have two I need three. Okay, okay. Okay. Oh my god. I'm missing one piece of ore that I need to make the bar. Great. So I guess I'm going mining.

Sam
How do I wait? Nope. What? What did I just do put down? Oh my gosh. How do I okay. Oh, I forgot I have I have animals. Okay, gotta pet my animal. I have a llama named stinky I think. I forget his name but I think it's Stinky.

Karly
Aww. So how was your day? What have you been up to?

Sam
It was fine. Um, you know, it's work. We talked about how we wish we could just be able to do this full time and not have to work like an actual job. And I just wish I wish we could do that.

Karly
Same. I really wish-  I always really wanted to stream like I've wanted to for years. But one you need a pretty decent internet, which I don't really have like I mean my internets okay. But if you try to do anything super demanding it struggles. And I also don't have the best computer for it. But I like daydream about it all the time. Jesus oh my God!

Sam
What happened?

Karly
A horse literally just flew off the mountain and landed on top of me and I'm not even kidding.

Sam
That's amazing.

Karly
He just kept going too he's all right. No worse for the wear.

Sam
No worse for the wear. You love to see it.

Karly
There was no one on him either. Wild. That's never happened before.

Sam
Okay, so I'm working on the satchel. So this is good. I have things brewing.

Karly
I forget how to get to the mine. Wow, really has been a long time. Oh my god, Pinky.

Sam
[both speak over each other] Oh, go ahead.

Karly
I was just gonna say so there's this big fat pink cat that walks around the town. And you can pet her every day and feed her and eventually you'll level up your friendship with her enough that you can basically like adopt her and she'll live in your house with you. I love her.

Sam
Yes, I have um, I have the dog scraps. And also my llamas not named stanky His name is Spanky.

Karly
You're close. You're close.

Sam
I really was okay. But what? I had some things brewing. What was I? No, that's not it. Oh, I don't want to take a picture. How do I? Oh my gosh.

Karly
I hope everyone's excited. Because for the next 40 minutes, it's literally just going to be me and Sam trying to remember how to play this game.

Sam
Yep.

Karly
And then by the time we remember how to play, we're going to be done with the game again. And next week we'll be playing something else.

Sam
Yeah. Oh, yeah, absolutely.

Karly
But we're both tired. And I mean, not much has really been going on our lives. We actually because we're recording earlier in the week than we usually do because Sam is going to be around this weekend. I mean, even less than normal has happened.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
In our lives. So we thought we would talk about something kind of silly. And not really mindless, but, you know, didn't require a lot of prep work,

Sam
Right,

Karly
before we talk about, we thought we would talk about what we were like in high school/middle school because I feel like everybody's kind of fun to laugh at, when they're like 12 to 17.

Sam
I feel like though, the hard thing is that I don't know how I'm going like this game is taking up all of my energy.

Karly
So much brain power.

Sam
So much. Okay, so I need charcoal. One second. My dudes

Karly
That's alright I can go first while you you math it up with Portia. Um, so Middle School, Karly and high school Karly were pretty different from each other actually. Um, so I was born in Pennsylvania. I grew up in Pennsylvania. And I moved to Florida when I was about 13. So I started out around 10 to 12. I was I was still in Pennsylvania. And I actually had like a decent ish number of friends. They were not, I would say, good friends. Um, they definitely had a history of being bullies. And the kind of friends that like, you go back to even though like as an adult, you're like, Why? Why did I go back? But at the time, you know, we were really good friends. But I have always been an absolute dork. The best way I can sum up Middle School, Karly is that we had a school talent show. And these girls danced to a Good Charlotte song. This was actually elementary school. And that's how I discovered Good Charlotte.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
They immediately became my favorite band. And of course, me being me. I made them my entire personality. Um, so fast forward a couple years. We had like a school spirit week kind of thing. And one of the like, days was like celebrity day you were supposed to dress up as like your favorite celebrity or whatever. It ended up getting canceled. I think probably because kids wanted to dress up as like inappropriate figures I'm guessing but I did not tell my mother that it was canceled. I was like, I'm gonna dress up as Benji. So I have blonde hair. My hair is pretty dark now. But when I was a kid, it was a much lighter blonde. I somehow convinced my mom to dye my hair jet black. And then we were trying to do the liberty spikes that Benji had in the lifestyle of the rich and famous music video. Well, I have thick curly hair that shit wasn't happening. But just the mere fact that I tried I think sums up Middle School Karly perfectly.

Sam
I love that.

Karly
Trying and failing to be Benji Madden from Good Charlotte.

Sam
Middle School me was...I had a Hollister phase like a real bad Hollister phase.

Karly
That's really hard for me to picture and also not.

Sam
Yeah, hold on. I'm trying to find someone. There. So where? What Where? Where are they? Are they in here? Are they in the apartments? Are they going they're moving so fast? Why is this happening? Yeah, so Middle School me very much Hollister. Which is just such a completely different I you know, I think like most people or like most middle schoolers I desperately wanted to fit in. And I mean, I've grown a lot from that now. I just don't care and I have my own style. But when I was in middle school, you know, that's what the cool kids were wearing. And then I changed schools in middle school as well. And not that I minded that I actually was excited to move but then I didn't know anybody and of course, like I wanted to fit in. So

Karly
yeah, I am gonna sneeze.

Sam
Oh, Arlo my. Okay. Side note. Bless you.

Karly
Thank you.

Sam
So my, the guy that I'm trying to woo on My Time at Portia is Arlo and he is part of like the team that like help keeps the town safe. And he just invited me to go on a run with him. And I know I'm gonna do it. Great. Let's go. He says, training for the flying pigs mission start. What does that mean? What am I doing?

Karly
It's funny that you had a hollister phase though because Middle School me was like one of those kids who's like I'm not like other girls and like refused to go and Hollister which like adult me is like that's so dumb. Not that I wanted to go on Hollister and wouldn't let myself but like, you're not anything special because you don't shop at Hollister calm down.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
Did you have a really big Hot Topic phase?

Sam
Yes. That came after that came in high school.

Karly
Yeah.

Sam
I completely. Yeah, my personas or me in general completely changed from middle school to high school. Middle School, Hollister phase, high school, emo phase, where I've stayed. Pretty much.

Karly
Yeah.

Sam
It's not a phase mom. This is who I am.

Karly
Yeah, I feel like I started my emo phase by the time I was like 12 because I was into Good Charlotte and that was like their whole thing.

Sam
Yeah. No, for me. My first like the first time I was able to go to like, quote unquote, pop punk concert I was in eighth grade. And I saw cute is what we aim for. And that

Karly
Wait was cute your first concert?

Sam
No, it was my first like, no. Backstreet Boys was actually my first concert.

Karly
I'm so jealous.

Sam
Yeah. But I used to go to shows all the time with my dad for his job.

Karly
Yeah cause your dad was like in the music business.

Sam
Yeah. So I I cute was my first like, concert that like, it was, I don't wanna say my choice because like, of course, I loved going like with my dad, but like, it was my first like, band that I listened to. And I discovered and

Karly
Right, it was like your decision to go and

Sam
Yes, exactly.

Unknown Speaker
My first concert was My Chemical Romance and Green Day.

Sam
I love that. It feels right. That doesn't surprise me.

Karly
Yeah, I it was a wild ride. I lost my mind. I think what's funny, though, is like, we maybe were different like to start but like, once we both got into concerts we like somehow became like the same person.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
But um, high school me was like Middle School me. Maybe slightly less awkward. And slightly, just slightly. I think by that I just mean I grew a hint of shame. I was like, I can

Sam
That's what happens when you grow up.

Karly
Right? You're like, you know, I'm just as awkward but at least now I know when to shut up and not let people see my weird self. Which isn't a good thing.

Sam
Yeah, but I feel like I kind of went back like now I'm like, I don't care if I'm weird. Like, I like what I like and that's that.

Karly
Yeah, I for the most part. I'm pretty good. If I'm like not around anybody I know then I go back. What is happening?

Sam
I just need to update everyone that I went on my run with who I want to be my boyfriend. So my crush and he goes so we ran to where he wanted me to run to. And he goes "You kind of look tired. You probably just need to exercise more." This man is canceled.

Karly
That son of a bitch. You gotta find a new person to woo

Sam
Yeah

Karly
I never liked that guy. I never got a good vibe from him. What a piece of shit. Can't believe he's out here shaming you.

Sam
And you know what? That's just the type of boy I'm after or that I attract. That's feels really right that he would be a fuck boy.

Karly
Honestly, though,

Sam
Well, no worries got my exerce in for the day.

Karly
You got your steps.

Sam
Got my steps. Going to collect some more wood maybe I don't know. Let's see. Wait, what is that? Alliance calls? Oh, okay.

Karly
I I think like you like I I don't really care if people think that I'm weird because like, like, I'm almost 30 like at this point, if I'm not cool yet, I'm not gonna be.

Sam
I think you're cool.

Karly
I think you're cool. But I don't know that the vast majority of people would think that I am cool.

Sam
Well.

Karly
And it's just the point where I'm like, whatever. I'm just gonna do my own thing. But I still get really, really shy. So like, if I'm not around people that I know, I just kind of get quiet and observe, see if I could figure out how to assimilate. But High School me, I just, I was really shy. I really didn't have, I had one friend really in high school. And then I met another girl in like my senior year, we haven't, like stayed in touch. So really, I only have like one lasting friend from high school. I have no lasting friends from middle school. So I kind of it's just just like a weird little kid along for the ride. You had a million friends though I feel like.

Sam
I did. I still kind of do like my friends. Like, every, like, all the people that I stay close with, like, they're all my best friends. Like, I feel like I mean, it's like zero to 100 either I don't like you at all. Or you're my best friend. There's literally no in between for me.

Karly
That's true. Sam calls literally everybody her best friend. Everybody.

Sam
Because they are. All of them. All of you. Every single one of you. If you know, you know. If you're questioning it, then we're probably not friends.

Karly
Okay, but you can't say that. Because you know, I question it all the time.

Sam
I stand by what I said.

Karly
Wow.

Sam
I'm just kidding.

Karly
You can't say that at 10 o'clock at night because I'm going to go to bed and think about it all night.

Sam
3am panic.

Karly
Honestly.

Sam
So, side note Oh, real quick. So I was working tonight, like I do every night. And I did a webinar. And we had some students that were looking at our game development degree program. And so I was like, Oh my gosh, like, I love video games. I love talking about video games, like all this stuff. And I was like, I plugged us I was like, Oh, well, I mean, my friend have a podcast, where we play video games, and you know, talk about different stuff. I said, And tonight, we're playing Portia. And, and I kind of described the game a little bit like not thinking that anyone would like know about it, or whatever. Because it's not like a super popular game I feel like but you know, whatever. And one of the guys like in this session was like, oh, I've been playing a lot of Portia. But he was like, I'm having a hard time like getting gols. G-o-l-s, which is the currency here in Portia. And I was like, Oh, yeah, my dude. I just got like, 800 gold. From a task. I just did I have 93,000 gold to my disposal. Like, what are you talking about?

Karly
I have 20

Sam
20. That's it? Or 20,000?

Karly
20.

Sam
Oh, girl.

Karly
But to be fair, you're so far along.

Sam
Yes, I am.

Karly
I'm like at the very beginning. But yeah, I have 20 gols.

Sam
You'll get there, buddy.

Karly
Yeah, well. But anyway, I shared a cringy moment from my middle school years. So I demand you embarrass yourself as well.

Sam
Okay. Let me think. I mean, I think Middle School in general is just embarrassing.

Karly
I mean, yes, this is true.

Sam
Um, okay, I have one. One time and this is just like an embarrassing story. It's not necessarily like I did anything specific. But when I was in seventh grade, I was still at my old Middle School. And we had an assembly. And I went to go sit, I sat down. I was like, on the floor. So like the bleachers were already full. I'm sitting on the floor, like crisscross applesauce and the sandwiched between tons of people, right. I start getting a nosebleed. Like a bad nosebleed. And I like stand up, flagged. I don't even know what happened. I had flagged down someone and basically I got blood everywhere and like and then I was like walking down the hallway. And these. These two girls were walking like the opposite direction so they could see me and they were like, oh man, she must have got into a fight and I was just holding my nose like no, I just have a nosebleed Um, but it happened like it was like the worst time it was like super embarrassing, and I hated it.

Karly
That's really funny.

Sam
I used to get nosebleeds a lot.

Karly
Really?

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
And that's just the kind of stuff that like stresses kids out that really shouldn't like, Who cares?

Sam
Right? I bet you nobody else remembers that that even happened, but not me. I'll remember it forever.

Karly
Of course, I remember so many, like insignificant moments from childhood that I'm sure nobody else has thought of once and they just like replay in my head. Like, at least once a month, my brain will kick it up. And make me think of it. Like when I was this probably, probably Elementary School. Probably around like fifth grade or so. Do you remember? I don't know if your school did it. But if the class was like going somewhere all together, they would make you like line up before you leave?

Sam
Yep.

Karly
Okay. So, for whatever reason, I'm coming into the room at the same time that everybody else was like lining up to leave.

Sam
Okay.

Karly
And this punkass kid, stuck his foot out, so that I would run it over with my wheelchair when I came in.

Sam
Kay.

Karly
And then, of course, like I do, because I don't have time to course correct. I'm literally coming in the doorway. Whatever.

Sam
Right.

Karly
So I run him right over. He screams like I just broke his foot. He's fine. He's like completely fine. He literally did it just be a dick. I of course, being baby that I am cried. Nobody else cared. Like even the kid like forgot it about like two minutes later. But like, every once in a while, just think I'll be like, Wow, what a traumatic moment from childhood. It's not traumatic. But my brain treats it as though it was.

Sam
Yeah, that's fair. Also, I just like love all the weird animals in My Time at Portia, like none of them makes sense. But

Karly
I mean not really anything in Portia makes sense.

Sam
That's true. It's such a weird game.

Karly
It really is there like these like ladybugs giant Ladybug dudes that just walk around. I hate to fight them. Like they're technically enemies.

Sam
I know but they're so cute.

Karly
I know. I know. There's like a giant bird you can fight hate to fight it. It's so sad. Because like they really don't. Some of them will. But most of them like won't attack you unless you get aggressive first.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
And so I hate that sometimes. I have to get aggressive first.

Sam
Get what I needed? Yes,I did. I just chopped down this big ass tree for is this type of wood. Cool.

Karly
Are you going to play My Time at Sandrock when that comes out?

Sam
Yeah, probably. But I I will probably want to finish this first.

Karly
I don't know they're connected.

Sam
Oh, then yes.

Karly
Like I I think they're connected in that they're like, technically like part of like the same universe.

Sam
Okay.

Karly
But I don't know that. Like one story really feeds into the next.

Sam
Okay.

Karly
I'm not 100%. But you probably will have time to beat this. I believe and anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, that it's coming out in early access, either this month, or maybe already has come out in early access on Steam. And then I think they want to do like a full release either end of this year or next year. So it's not gonna be like out for quite a while.

Sam
Gotcha.

Karly
From what I've seen a bit though, it looks pretty good. I know the developers have released like gameplay videos promoting it on YouTube. So if you're interested, you can check that out.

Sam
Yeah, no, Idefinitely will.

Karly
And the good thing about Portia is that it's several years old now by this point, so it goes on sale fairly often. When I got it for my switch, I only paid $7. And it's it's absolutely worth that. I mean, I think it's worth the 30

Sam
I do too. Also though, I I mucked up. I mucked up guys because I needed two pillars but I only got enough wood and rope for one pillar.

Karly
Rip. I am currently, so I need to build a bridge. And I also need to build a planter box. But so this is an example of how the math can be really hard and Portia. So I need to build these, they all have multiple pieces, which then in turn have multiple pieces to those pieces. Before I could make some of the pieces for the bridge, I had to make a grinder and the grinder lets you make things like copper blades, copper pipes, copper wires, etc. But now I also need to make a civil cutter, which lets you like cut wood and stuff. So like, I haven't even begun the process of building the bridge yet. Because first, I had to make the tool to make the tool to then make the bridge.

Sam
Yep. I'll never restart this game because I remember the bridge being a pain in the ass.

Karly
Yeah. I mean, it's not that bad. Like, I feel like the thing about Portia is, it's best if you are consistent with playing. Because once you start and you get into a groove, you're fine.

Sam
Yep.

Karly
But God forbid you get out of that groove. Because it's hard to jump back in. Just because there's so much going on. But to be fair, I'm like that with a lot of games. I don't really like to, to put things down for too long, because I just have a hard time remembering where I'm at. And what do I need to do.

Sam
Yeah, I mean, because here's the thing, we're gonna record this episode. And I'm not going to bed. I have to keep playing.

Karly
Yeah, well see. Unfortunately, I have to go to bed.

Sam
Yeah but, but you can now get into the groove. You can play more tomorrow.

Karly
This is true. This is true. I probably won't.

Sam
Well.

Karly
just because it's so overwhelming. But mostly, I would probably do better if I just completely start over from scratch.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
Rather than like I'm already three tasks deep, and I don't like know where to go. Whereas like, when you start at the beginning, you get like the half tutorial kind of thing. So

Sam
Right. Here we go.

Karly
Okay, so here's here's the the the final High School Middle School question.

Sam
Yes.

Karly
If you could go back and relive high school would you do it?

Sam
No. No. I don't think so.

Karly
Me either. It blows my mind that there are people who would say yes, I know Lexi would. Lexi said before she would do high school again. You couldn't pay me to go back to high school. Like I don't think I could get through it again.

Sam
Yeah, I am. I'm content I would redo college again.

Karly
I would redo college. Well, I have a caveat. So now for high school there's like two versions of the question like would you read relive it like exactly as it as you just get to do it again? Or would you be willing to do it if like you know everything you know now and you got to like redo it over differently for both for high school both answers is No, I wouldn't do it again. College if I could go back knowing what I know now I would do a completely different and I would do it again, I would get a different degree because I hate my degree. And I would like to do it again.

Sam
I agree.

Karly
High School is brutal. Teenagers suck I would also there's too many school shootings like that's really dark but genuinely like that's what I think about I oof no I don't want to go back to school. No,

Sam
yeah.

Karly
 absolutely not.

Sam
How do we get bearings? How do we go okay,

Karly
I have no idea.

Sam
Great I need

Karly
I'm going back to the mine because I apparently can never have enough copper.

Sam
So I need three bearings and bearings take one bearing takes 4 tin alloy so I need 12 tin alloys How do I get? Where do I? Where do I craft tin alloy?

Karly
This train of thought right now is the perfect summary of My Time at Portia.

Sam
Right.

Karly
I feel like we're making the game sound like it's nothing but math. And that's not true. There's like a lot of different things to do. There's tons of different people you can be friends with. And a lot of quests and stuff, but yes,

Sam
I figured it out. But I can't use the machine because it's already using. It's already doing something else.

Karly
Well. That's how it be sometimes.

Sam
I know. This is literally this is Portia. It is fun though we swear.

Karly
I really like mining because I really like the mining music.

Sam
I like mining it's fun.

Karly
Lexi always said that she didn't like it. I think she said like, reminds her of like the weather channel.

Sam
Yeah. She did.

Karly
I like it. I find it really soothing. I don't know why.

Sam
No, I agree. I found it to be soothing.

Unknown Speaker
So one thing I thought we could start doing is the day that we're recording now it's April 6, so we're kind of in the beginning of a month. I thought it would be fun if every month we talked about games that are coming out soon that we're really excited to play.

Sam
Oh, yes.

Unknown Speaker
Do you have any that are coming out kind of soon that you're looking forward to? I'm sorry for putting you on the spot. I realized I'm doing that.

Sam
That's okay. Um, I don't know. Well, that's not true. I said, Did I send you a game that looked really cool? On Tiktok and you're like, oh, I've heard about that. It's like an early access or is going to be an early access or

Karly
Coral island?

Sam
Yeah. That looked fun.

Karly
Yeah. Do you want to tell everybody about it? Or at least what you remember of it?

Sam
I honestly don't remember much. Also, can you hold on for one second?

Karly
Yeah.

Sam
Sorry. I thought I thought we were getting murdered.

Karly
Rip. I'm glad you're not. Because that would be traumatitc. So anyways, we were talking about coral Island.

Sam
I'm gonna Yeah, okay. Um, I don't remember much except that it looks really cute.

Karly
Yeah Coral Island is- And I'm not sure when it's coming out. I don't think it's coming out this month. I think it's coming out closer to like October.

Sam
Oh, okay.

Karly
I could be wrong. I'll have to look it up, because I'm really excited about it, too. But it's basically like a farming Sim, and it's on an island. And so it'll probably be similar to like Stardew, and all the other like farming Sims that are already out. But it looks one it has a beautiful art style, which I love. And also it looks like it has a more diverse range of characters.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
Which is exciting to see. But I've had it on my wishlist on steam for a while. So we'll definitely keep everybody updated on that one. I know Sam will love it when it comes out. Because one of the things you can do is like diving, and do things with like coral reef and stuff, which is right up Sam's alley.

Sam
Absolutely.

Karly
A game that I'm really excited to play, which is actually coming out in a few days on switch is called Cozy Grove. Have you seen anything about it?

Sam
It sounds familiar.

Karly
Yeah, so it's similar, I think to Animal Crossing. ish. I've seen it pitched to people who like Animal Crossing. But you have basically like an island, and there are spirits that you help. And they're really cute looking. And from what I've read, it's supposed to be a game that you can play in more short timeframes. So about like 30 minutes, and you'll have like daily things you have to do to help these spirits and stuff on your island. And the game seems to, I guess, encourage you to not spend too much time on the game. So like, if you're trying to like give wood to a spirit or whatever, like at some point you're going to run out you can't get any more for the day.

Sam
Yeah.

Karly
Which I kind of like because I have a really obsessive personality. So like if I really like a game, I will latch on and play it for too long. And that kind of can lead to you burning out. So I'm looking for a game that I can enjoy in a more perhaps healthy manner.

Sam
Yeah, I need everyone to know that I'm a simp. And Arlo asked me to go running again. And

Karly
Samantha.

Sam
I am going running again. Even though I was supposed to be heading to the mines because I need iron ore.

Karly
You are the literal worst.

Sam
This is me in real life too.

Karly
It really is you just let people walk all over you and then you wonder why you're sad you dumbass. Treat yourself better. Find somebody who will treat you right, arlo is not even cute.

Sam
Yes he is

Karly
Falsehoods

Sam
Oh he goes “just from two days of running you look tougher already I'll be here training every day for the week so feel free to join again whenever you're free” oh thank you I will.

Karly
Wow wowie

Sam
He gave me a compliment so obviously I have to literally chase after him.

Karly
A pretty backhanded one but all right

Sam
Compliments a compliment

Karly
It's no wonder you're in therapy
[Laughter]

Sam
True you're not wrong you're not wrong.

Karly
Oh but I love you. I basically.. I do you know I do.

Sam
Yeah

Karly um
I've basically spent this entire episode in the mine. Do I have enough copper yet? No, I don't.

Sam
I love the mine I'm going right now because it's fun. I like that you can like you just like dig and dig and it never ends and then there's like hidden rooms.

Karly
Yeah so the mines are a little bit different I mean I guess they're not super different from stardew but you basically get thrown into like this big stone cave and you have these goggles and when you activate them you can see these glowing lights and that's where there's something to dig for. So you highlight that and then you can make your way down to collect it and so you can get like your typical materials like stone and copper or iron but you'll also find these artifacts and stuff because you're playing like a post-apoc apocalyptic world so then you can take them to like the museum or the science lab or something I forget honestly and then eventually you can like assemble these like old artifacts and stuff. So I really like it. It's an interesting take on the mine. I think it's a little bit different than other games.

Sam
It's not like most girls it's a gamer girl.

Karly
Yeah she doesn't shop at hollister. So I feel like there's probably no sense in asking you because it's gonna be over a week until we can record again and I find it unlikely that either of us will stick to anything we say tonight.

Sam
No but I'm gonna stick to it. I'm gonna stick to portia.

Karly
You're so full of crap but what do you think you want to play for next episode?

Sam
Portia

Karly
You're such a piece of shit you're not gonna be playing portia I know it everybody else knows it.

Sam
Well since I've been recording outherein my living room maybe I'll play I've been I started final fantasy 7.

Karly
Oh you started it?

Sam
I did you did

Karly
This news to me yeah.

Sam
I just started it like two days ago or I'll play god of war probably.

Karly
Oh have you started that yet?

Sam
Yes

Karly
Nice she started playing god of war I think years ago.

Sam
Yeah

Karly
Because my brother had it and he introduced it to her and then she never finished it and never got it for herself because she didn't have an external hard drive but wow look at you you're really gonna do the thing. I think I don't know what I’ll play. I might play cozy grove if it is indeed out and I buy it. but also i really miss the sims. I haven't played the sims in probably close to a year. I think it might be time to go back to Sims.

Sam
That could be fun

Karly
Yeah so anyway it is 11 o'clock at night I've done too much math

Sam
Same too much math

Karly
But for real we do recommend it

Sam
But for real it's a really great game you should play it

Karly
Yeah all right

Sam
On that note

Both
Bye!
